Hello,
Sorry for my english. I use google translation so that it is not more horrible :)
I received WU. Dead line: 366081 days 17 hours and 33 minutes.
Java windows opens. When crunch, many PC resources are used.
I put in pose in order to have a comfort of use of the pc.
After restarting the pc, calculation error.
I have an i7 860 and when the project resumed, I received news that I stopped at 4.
I would run the project when not in front of the PC and tell you the consequences!
Have a good day !!!

I see after 14 immediate failures (appears the Java run-time is not downloading) across 3 Windows PC's I finally got a task that is running on my Vista Windows PC. Has been running now for a bit over 7 hours; says there is about 600,041 days + 21:41:40 hours of Estimated time remaining to completion.

It is using almost 174K of REAL RAM, and about 103K of the SWAP FILE; using 1 thread of the CPU with a Java applet window open showing lots of "islands" with interconnecting colorful lines, etc; creates A-LOT of lag when trying to move mouse, type, etc. This will SERIOUSLY impact scheduling, deadlines and requesting new work from other project.

The lag is DEFINITELY DUE to the JAVA applet using LOTS OF RESOURCES. Had this same lag issue on another now defunct project that used Java applets some years ago.

I see my lone task that successfully downloaded crashed and burned after almost 19.4 hours (69,804 seconds) of running.

Not entirely true, some work is getting returned and counted, you can see here: http://www.dhep.ga/statsdailyrankings.php
Hopefully in the next few days the credit will be seen here as well.

It is still very much a work in progress and just getting started.

That was populating prior to BOINC from the native app that hid from the OS. I had checked it once hours showed up on Free-DC page. Zombie is on that list but has no successful tasks completed in BOINC.

Yes obviously beta beta, but Michael definitively wants to use java because this is how he coded all is initial project (http://dhep.ga/) and his idea is to port this into boinc (if I'm not wrong).

The project mentioned by Dr Who Fan above is probably Constellation.

So if java + boinc = bad idea, it does not bode well...

Hello just to clarify a few issues. We'll get it all working first and then look at any memory and other optimisations.

As to the GUI you can close it. Once we've got the basics working I'll add an option and if the general consensus is to have it off, to make that the default. However that applet will only consume resources when repainted (it is designed not to repaint by itself, only when you resize it or reshow it, etc..).

As to "work being done". Yes all of your connections are generating useful work. Basically if your client is showing up here http://www.dhep.ga/statstopology.php then it's connected OK. NOTE: at the moment all Windows clients are showing up as WinBoinc as we are yet to make our custom build of the wrapper (eventually will aim to add these enhancements to the main BOINC branch).

A quick brief of how this project will be working with BOINC:
o A GA is an indefinite process so tasks will be set to have long lengths. A GA will work best with stable islands however feel free to pop in and out if necessary. Work is submitted to the server every 15 minutes.
o Credit will be assigned via the trickle system.
o Task files sent out are dummys - the actual work is downloaded from our servers - and as progress is submitted to our servers every 15 minutes - there is no output to validate. If your client has run the GA and sent progress updates that is already enough.

For now you can have an idea of your client's throughput here: http://www.dhep.ga/statsdailyrankings.php and http://www.dhep.ga/statsrankings.php .

We'll first focus on credit assignment, then on tidying up the input/output of workunits, and then some Windows customisations and performance.

As to memory/performance, we've had 144 VMs running on two (large) hosts continuously for 3 weeks now with no issues. But we'll address these on a case by case basis (I suspect mostly Windows) when the time comes.

Further to this, as much as we do appreciate you lot joining in early please do not expect any boinc credits for the time being. if you're on a Mac or Linux your progress is being racked up here http://www.dhep.ga/statsrankings.php.

Also BOINC support is officially announced expect workunits to vanish and apps to change at any moment and project resets being required. Remember you came here before it was officially ready!.

Other than that thanks a lot for being part of DHEP!

No, not true, I have never run the native app and my ID had appeared in the stats. Didn't know Free-DC had an hours page for DHEP, got a link ? Or do you mean WUPROP, my hours have been showing there for a couple of days. The tasks don't stay in Boinc as Michael has explained after your post.

The new link Michael gave showing the clients has me listed with work completed, even your ID is in there.

Thanks for your support and explanations.

That page very much existed before there were tasks and look at all the usernames. They aren't BOINC.

The standard missing WUProp hours link.

Well my results were there before you posted message 14, I checked again before I posted message 15 and provided a link to a page where you could see the stats. Not my fault if you can't check your facts properly or even ask for more evidence of someone's contrary position. Sorry if you don't like being told your wrong, I tried to do it in a nice way and let others know your statement was wrong. Michael found time to come and clarify the position and I see no point in trying to convince you any further as you seem incapable of recognising it.
